Topic: Aberdare Bike Races

Had great day out and the Weather stay nice, just a quick question, having looked through my Snap's, a lot of them are either out of focus or too sharp(no movement in wheels etc) settings range from 1/60 to 1/1000 of a sec. thanks in advance Dai

If you have an image 'side on' with the wheels sharp then the shutter speed was too fast.  You need to be at around 1/60th sec when panning to get a blurred wheel, this also means that there is a chance of camera shake, try to pre-focus on a point in the road and then turn your focus to manual, as the bike comes into view start following it with your camera on high speed drive (max frames/sec) keeping the bike in frame, and turning from the hips.  Do not take your finger off the shutter release until you have stopped panning.  Try to do all the above in a fluid movement, practice makes perfect.

Thanks Col, i was doing all that, with varing results, either they are sharp with no wheel movement or wheel movement and blurred bike or the trees in focus  smile . so i guess it's Practice, Practice, Practice, Practice.

Re: Aberdare Bike Races

What format are you sending the photo's to Aberdare, Jpeg-Dpi, watermarked etc

Re: Aberdare Bike Races

High Resolution Jpegs are probably the best. As we are giving them to Aberdare for their use it might not be wise to watermark them.
